Aware of her condition, Voe chooses to wear a veil over her face in Elysium to protect her eyes from the sun, as well as large hats to protect the rest of her face. She also wears outdated dresses with thigh-high black boots. Physical Weaknesses: Vampires possess a hypersensitivity to UV light. Exposure to sunlight is very deadly as it can damage the skin with sunburns and skin malignances that vampires have no means of naturally repairing. Vampires are severely allergic to all blood thinners, including garlic. Vampires have a strong craving for blood, commonly referred to simply as “thirst” or “bloodlust.” It is controllable as long as a vampire drinks blood daily. If vampires ever skip drinking blood for a day or more, they will experience a craving for blood much like how a drug addict experiences a craving for an addiction. Magical Abilities: Vanessa taught Voe the vampire's special ability of distorting the minds of people upon which she fed by speaking close to their ears but Voe can only make the distraction easily broken. Her victims are still vaguely aware when she bites them, especially if she does not concentrate. Personal Skills & Training: Personal Weaknesses: derogatory comments, arrogant people Personality: Voe is always blunt and honest, though she can be indiscreet as well. Others have to take what she says not so personally all the time, because there are instances when she does not mean to be insulting. She prefers to live in a straightforward manner - she takes what she wants and says what she means, though she usually speaks poetically. Social conventions are beneath her and she ignores them to do things her own way as long as they're elegant and follow Vanessa's guidelines. She takes all the advice her surrogate mother gave her to heart and wants to be as fearless, respectable and graceful as the older vampiress. Independence is very important to her - if she doesn't have it, she feels trapped and anxious. Voe has a fierce temper when angered, though most of the time she tries to remain calm and posed like Vanessa. Reason and logic disappear in an uncontrollable outburst and she is a fighter when her emotions are aroused. Any small stimuli can set her off and she lets her anger all out. She sometimes act before she thinks and can do things on the spur of the moment, which can often get her into trouble. She was idealistic and is still loyal to her values and the people she cares about most in her life. Vanessa, however, was the person she loved most in the world and her death has left Voe even more emotional and bitter than usual. She is hesitant to trust people. There is nothing more pleasant to her than being outdoors, her favorite activities being stargazing at the top of trees and swimming. Beautiful surroundings are quite important, both in her home and outward appearance. Vanessa loved to collect fancy dresses from the women she fed upon and they were some of the few material things Voe took with her after she died along with the vial of Vanessa's blood around her neck. Said dresses are treasured in a wardrobe and she usually wears them. Sensations of smell, hearing and touch are very important to her as she was partially sighted due to albinism before she was turned into a vampire. Voe calls people by nicknames depending on their smell and voice, more so than what they look like. She prefers to call people by what she thinks their names should be and will not say anything different even when they ask. History: Voe was born as Li-Na to Siyu and Ning Mao on October 17, 1980 in Meridian, Idaho. Her parents did not plan for her birth and when she was born, they were disgusted at the sight of an albino daughter. They abandoned her in Tully Park a few days after she was born, where she was soon discovered by a female vampire named Vanessa Cochell. Vanessa took the baby to an abandoned underground bomb shelter converted into her home and decided to raise her as her own instead of feeding upon the newborn. For the past few years, her maternal instincts increased and she wanted a child and a protege to take care of to vary her long life. She removed the name band off the baby's wrist, declaring her name to be Voe - a cross between her favorite writer, Edgar Allen Poe with her first initial. Her long-time friends Mary, Sarah and Lysander soon were introduced to Voe and strictly warned against feeding off of her. They soon grew fond of her although they were more preoccupied with their own vampire business. Despite her unfortunate beginning, Voe had a happy childhood. She spent all of her time with Vanessa and occasionally with Vanessa's friends. Mary and Lysander visited more frequently, and she regarded them as friends. Her albinism and Vanessa's vampirism meant that Voe was unable to go to school and was taught to read and write, as well as various facts whenever she was curious enough to ask about things. She picked up Vanessa's habit of speaking poetically as well as learning self-defence to protect herself from Vanessa's enemy, Alix Preth. Alix's gang of vampires, in Vanessa's opinion, were brutes who acted like animals when they searched for blood. There was no way that Vanessa was going to let the bloodlust rot her brain and insisted that her friends control her desires. Alix and Vanessa met when they first became vampires from the same sire at forty-years-old and both experienced the change differently. Several times over the years, Alix and her friends made life especially difficult for Vanessa, trying to break into her bomb shelter home and ambushing her to challenge her to fights. Voe's puberty was a chaotic period, as she dealt with new changes to her body, Alix and her gang's frequent attacks, and her new and sudden crush on Lysander. The constant threat to her safety meant that Vanessa insisted that she learn some sort of self-defense and Voe began to learn kick-boxing from Lysander, and it was during those lessons that her crush blossomed. He didn't find out, though, and she continued to carry her crush as the years passed. Unlike some teenagers, Voe became closer to her mother and shared with her most of her thoughts and concerns. She even discovered that Voe fancied Lysander, but insisted that after she turned twenty-one, she could do what she pleased as an adult, provided that Voe was fully aware of the consequences. When she turned twenty, Voe begged Vanessa to turn her so that they could hunt as mother and daughter, sharing experiences together they normally couldn't have. Vanessa was more than thrilled to have her adopted daughter be a vampire with her but had to warn Voe properly of the consequences of this choice. Voe knew full well about being a vampire and persisted, finally earning the right to be turned by Vanessa. Vanessa, pleased, began to show her how to be a proper and elegant vampiress. They spent their time in Meridian before Vanessa decided to take them on a vacation to Redwood National Park. They travelled during the evening and stayed in motels when they could not travel during the day. She wanted Voe to have the possibility of seeing somewhere special, despite being a vampire. Being a twenty-one-year-old vampire opened several options for Voe that she was unable to so when she was younger, including the attempt to seduce Lysander. It took a couple of tries on her part before he accepted her blunt advances. The two started what he declared was a casual relationship, but she was much more possessive of him. They ended it after a year when Lysander found another vampiress and decided that spending time with her was much more preferable. In a state of depression, Voe ran away from the bomb shelter in order to find relief of some sort and chose a man to tie up and promptly sleep with. The man, whose name she did not care to learn, choosing to call him Lizard, was forced to become her toy. Though he cursed at her to no end, she soon grew fond of him and often untied him for sparring matches. She always won, which helped her ego after she had to spend any amount of time with Lysander. The man found a way to escape one day and although Voe searched, she never saw him again. This instance became one of the only secrets she had hidden from Vanessa, who obviously would not be pleased at such a beastly action. She threw herself into pleasing Vanessa, attempting to make social connections with other vampires who were not associated with Alix Preth, but she was not successful and had no idea how to make and keep contacts... acquaintences, even. Disheartened but not quite ready to give up, she spent time with Vanessa, doing whatever she could to make her happy. Five years passed and a year before the virus hit, Alix Preth and her posse attacked the bomb shelter again, only this time they succeeded. Before Voe could move to help, the group had killed Mary, Sarah and Lysander and Alix made a point of torturing Vanessa in front of Voe as the younger woman was captured and tied up. As Vanessa slowly bled to death, Voe snapped and pulled a hidden dagger out of her dress, cutting the bonds that held her. She fought the two vampires and knocked one of them unconscious before lunging for Alix's throat. They struggled, but Voe was victorious. She crouched besides Vanessa on the floor and tore up some fabric for bandages, but it was too late - her surrogate looked at her, struggling for breath and whispered, "You are beautiful. You are my Voe. Do not forget." Voe took Vanessa's last words to heart. Then the virus hit and Voe was surrounded by death. She fed on people who were infected, though she couldn't handle spending all of her time alone. It got to the point where she hid in places to hear people's conversations. Vanessa's teachings and the vial of her surrogate mother's blood around her neck were the only things that kept her going through the chaotic times of the virus. To anyone who might have gotten to know her, they would have said that Voe was going off the deep end. She put a fierce wall between herself and other people and normal social conventions were completely lost on her. Voe happened to be sneaking around one day when she overheard someone say something about a community for unusual people like herself and, intrigued, weaseling into the boat to take her to Elysium.
